Tatas overtake both Ambani groups together on market wealth

ratan-tata.jpg

Tatas may not be known for being on the stock-based rich lists, but changing market dynamics have led to the salt-to-software conglomerate overtaking the combined market wealth of the two Ambani groups put together.

The share prices have been tumbling in recent past for both the Reliance groups, led by the billionaire brothers Mukesh and Anil Ambani, and the analysts put the blame on a string of controversies surrounding them for many months now.

On the other hand, a host of Tata group firms have grown stronger, in terms of stock market valuation, while shrugging off an overall bearish sentiments in the broader market and even some controversies related to them.

In the process, the stock market wealth of the entire Tata group has grown to close to Rs 4,40,000 crore -- highest for any corporate house and bigger than the combined figure of the two Ambani groups together at about Rs 3,67,000 crore.

This marks a sharp reversal of the things seen about an year ago, when Tatas were smaller than the Mukesh Ambani group alone. Tatas have about 30 listed companies, while the Mukesh Ambani group has only two.

As per the latest market value of individual groups, Tatas rank on the top, followed by Mukesh-led Reliance group at second position with about Rs 2,85,000 crore.

The Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (R-ADAG), which ranked third after the Mukesh-led RIL group and Tatas a year ago, does not figure even among the top 10 groups now.

In the past one year, R-ADAG's market wealth has plunged by over Rs 60,000 crore to close to Rs 82,000 crore now.

The Mukesh-led group's valuation has also fallen by about Rs 73,000 crore, but that of Tatas has grown by more than Rs 1,00,000 crore in the same period.

The Tata companies that have added significant market wealth in the past one year include TCS , Tata Motors , Tata Steel , Titan, Tata Coffee , Tata Chemicals and Rallis.

On the other hand, all the companies of the two Ambani groups, barring the smallest of them Reliance Broadcast Network , have lost market value since July last year.

In the MDA group, Reliance Industries has lost about Rs 72,000 crore, while the only other listed firm Reliance Industrial Infra Ltd has also lost about Rs 650 crore.

Among ADAG firms, the losses are about Rs 21,000 crore for RCOM, about Rs 20,000 crore for R-Power, Rs 14,000 crore for R-Infra and over Rs 5,000 crore for Reliance Capital .

While the Reliance companies have been traditionally known as very aggressive when it comes to the stock market, Tatas have been mostly known as conservatives on this front.

Investors have historically preferred Reliance stocks for wealth creation, but situation is changing drastically as both Ambani groups are giving below-market returns.

Amid the dwindling investor interest in Reliance stocks, Tatas have not been the only beneficiaries but a whole lot of groups known to be professionally-run have also gained.

These include the likes of the Birla, Mahindra, HDFC, Adani, Bharti, L&T, Jindal and Bajaj groups, experts said.
"Reliance stocks are more controversial at the moment, whereas others like HDFC or Mahindra groups are not," Religare Securities Executive VP (Retail Research) Rajesh Jain said.

"Moreover, a weak stock is more prone to get affected by any negative news. That implies to RIL and ADAG stocks. RIL has underperformed the market in the past one year," he added.

Way2Wealth's Chief Operating Officer Ambareesh Baliga also said that it was negative set of news playing spoilsport for the ADAG stocks.

"For RIL, it was the lower gas production at the KG-D6 basin which has discouraged the investors," Baliga said.

New Features in Apple's new mobile OS, iOS5

           apple ios5 steve jobs

Apple CEO Steve Jobs took centrestage at the Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco to unveil the next version of the company's mobile operating system iOS.
The new iOS, iOS5 OS 5, adds more than 200 features, according to the company.
Here's looking into 10 of the biggest new features in iOS 5.

Notification CenterNotification Center

The new notification feature in iOS 5 will bring all alerts like new email, texts, friend requests at one place. The notifications, which can be accessed by swiping down from the top of screen, also include stocks and weather notifications.
Notification alerts will appear at the top of the phone. Users will have the option to ignore them or view them immediately.

imessageiMessage

Just like the BlackBerry Messenger, Apple has created a new group messaging service for iOS users. With iMessage, users can send messages over Wi-Fi or 3G. Built into the messages app, iMessage will enable users to send text, photos, videos, contacts, and group messages between iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
Users will also be able to track messages with delivery receipts and see when someone is typing.

NewsstandNewsstand

iOS 5 will get a new feature called NewsStand, which is designed to help users purchase and organise newspaper and magazine subscriptions on their iPad, iPhone or iPod.
Similar to iBooks, Newsstand works like a folder that allows users to access their favorite publications into a central place with a bookshelf app icon.

remindersReminders

For all your to-dos, Apple has added a new feature called Reminders in iOS5. Reminders will let users organise their 'do not forget list,' complete with due dates and locations.
Since Reminders can be location based, users will get an alert as soon as they land at the location for which they have fixed a reminder. Reminders will also work with iCal, Outlook, and iCloud, so it will automatically update on all devices and calendars.

twitterTwitter

With iOS 5, the micro-blogging site Twitter will become the default social network on Apple devices.
Apple has teamed up with Twitter to allow iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch users to tweet photos, maps, websites and other items directly from within the iOS 5.
Once signed into Settings, users can tweet directly from Safari, Photos, Camera, YouTube, or Maps.

On iPad, there will be full tab browsing which will keep track of multiple Web pages and switch between them with ease.

cameraCamera

The iOS 5 also adds new features to the camera app. A shortcut in iOS 5 will allow users to use camera, even bypassing the lock code. This means the camera app can be opened right from the lock screen.
Users can compose a frame using grid lines, pinch-to-zoom gestures and single-tap focus. For snapping pictures, users can now use the volume up button.

mailMail

iOS 5 will bring some new features to Mail app too. The app will now allow formatting of text using bold, italic, or underlined fonts. Users can create indents in the text of message and can drag to rearrange names in address fields.

First look: Apples iOS 5 PC Free setup, keyboard shortcuts

Apple's iOS 5 allows for PC Free setup over iCloud and new custom keyboard shortcuts. AppleInsider offers a first look at the developer build of iOS 5.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs and fellow executives unveiled iOS 5, the next major update to iOS, on Monday at the Worldwide Developer Conference in San Francisco. The software update includes 200 new features, such as an updated Notification Center and a new messaging service exclusively for iOS users..

"Perhaps iOS 5’s paramount feature is that it’s built to seamlessly work with iCloud in the Post PC revolution that Apple is leading," Jobs said during the WWDC keynote. People familiar with the matter report that the PC Free setup feature has been enabled in the beta version of iOS 5. Apple now provides three ways to set up an iPhone: Set Up as new iPhone, Restore from iCloud Backup, Restore from iTunes.

ios5-110607-3

Customers without a valid Apple ID can register for a free email address from iCloud. Apple's freeiCloud service will support daily backups over Wi-Fi. Users can simply plugin their devices to a wall charger and the a backup will be initiated. iCloud offers 5GB of free storage for mail documents and backup, which doesn't count music, apps, books purchased from Apple.

ios5-110607-4

Restoring from an iCloud backup is as easy as connecting the device to Wi-Fi and entering an Apple ID and password. According to Apple, "your personal data -- along with your purchased music, apps, and books from iTunes -- will appear on your devices. As if they'd always been there."

ios5-110607-5

A new Reminders app has been added to iOS 5, as well as a Newsstand app for managing newspaper and magazine subscriptions. Apple also appears to have separated the iPod function into Music and Videos sections.

ios5-110607-6

iOS 5 now offers custom keyboard shortcuts that can be added under Keyboard settings. Apple has also added support for a split screen keyboard.

ios5-110607-2

Developers report that iMessage does not appear to be fully finished, though a FaceTime button has been added to the top of a message view. As previously reported, Apple has added system-levelintegration with Twitter. According to reports, Tweets can be sent from Apple's native apps, websites in Safari and photos in the Camera app via the sharing pane.
